The Fair Trade Towns Campaign in France has been in existence since 2009

Since 2023, there has been an evolution of the network: there are no more criteria to become a Fair Trade Town, but a commitment charter that promotes a vision where local authorities play a role in the process.

The charter’s five guidelines are :

  1. Increasing the amount of Fair Trade products in public procurement ;
  2. Developing fair trade awareness-raising and education
  3. Supporting a local economy with positive environmental and social impact on both local and international scales
  4. Including fair trade in international solidarity and international cooperation policies
  5. Encouraging partnerships between local communities and local civil society

Our goals :

  • - Strengthen the exchange of practices, tools and experiences between local authorities and fair trade stakeholders
  • - Train local elected officials and technicians in fair trade public procurement
  • - Promote the actions of committed local authorities regarding fair trade
  • - Raise the visibility of fair trade in local communities

In addition, Commerce Equitable France manages a Fair Trade schools campaign called “Fair Future”, which isy aimed at the educational community.

Since 2023, a so-called “FAIR Future Community” has reunited more than 100 education actors, such as teachers, professors, educational managers, heads of establishments, non-formal education stakeholders, etc. The goal is to reinforce their capacities, promote their Fair Trade actions and inspire other education actors willing to support youth’s engagement in favour of sustainability and social justice.
