The 3rd International Fair Trade Towns conference was held in Lyon in 2009.

• Fairtrade Towns in Spain: Blanca SANCHEZ, IDEAS
• Fairtrade Towns in Sweden: Emma RUNG, Rattvisemarket
• Fairtrade Towns in the South: First thoughts on a model for Fairtrade Towns OFORI, New Koforidua, Ghana.

Questions will be collected during the break for the “panel question & answer session”
 
11H15– 11H30: The International Fairtrade Town Movement: where we started Information on the international Fairtrade Town movement and introduction of the Fairtrade Town website by Bruce CROWTHER (Fairtrade Foundation UK)

14H15– 17H00: WORKSHOP SESSION OF DAY 1 
1. Which tools, materials and resources can we share and put in common?
The workshop will explore the range of materials and resources available and identify what’s needed for effective, thriving
Fairtrade Town campaigns.
2. Public procurement
Success stories and lessons learnt from local authorities.
3. Involving the community
Exploring how a Fairtrade Town can involve everyone in the community: the local authority, Fairtrade Schools, Fairtrade
Faith Groups, Fairtrade at work etc.
4. Fairtrade Towns and wider issues: examples of how Fairtrade Towns have included wider issues (goal 6, climate
change, trade justice, …)
How do the different countries integrate Fairtrade Town campaigns with wider campaign issues? International examples of
how Fairtrade Town campaigns have made the link with climate change, sustainable development and trade justice.
What opportunities exist and how can we make the most of them?
 
15H30 – 16H00: Coffee break
 
16H00– 17H00: 2ND Part of the workshop session and summarize conclusions to present in the
plenary session of day two and examples of best practice to include in the new International Fairtrade Town website
 
17H00– 17H15: closing comments and information about optional evening activities and day two
of the conference
 
18H30– 20H30: Cocktail in the Town hall of Lyon with Gerard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon

1. Opportunities to work, learn and take action together (for Fairtrade Town groups and activists)
Ideas, tools and projects to develop greater co-ordination between Fairtrade Town groups across Europe and beyond.
Opportunities for joint action and resources needed to facilitate communication and sharing of ideas.
2. Where do we go from here : post-project strategy
An opportunity to explore ways we can work together to develop and enhance existing Fairtrade Town campaigns and
support new countries interested in starting Fairtrade Towns. How can we work together to share information and ideas?
Developing and promoting the International Fairtrade Town website and the potential for future funding for joint projects.
3. The possibility of Fairtrade Towns in the South
What would Fairtrade Towns in the South look like? What would the aims and objectives be and how would the scheme
work?
4. Relations between North and South
What are the possibilities for ‘Fairtrade Links’ between the North and the South? What are the expectations and
opportunities? How would links around Fairtrade enhance Fairtrade Town campaigning and create greater opportunities
to learn and take action together. Could Fairtrade Towns in the North support the development of potential Fairtrade
Towns in the South?
